BJ Vadis’ Culinary Adventure

It’s my aspiration in life to have a taste of every kind of cuisine in the world, but why spending the whole lot of money going abroad? Almost all are here in Jakarta. For instance, we have Indian, Korean, Japanese, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, German, Swiss, Mexican, Australian, Austrian, American, and practically almost from all cuisine capitals in the world.

So, my tour around the world can wait. I can have my satisfaction here.

The Mexican Taste Experience in AMIGOS

For Mexican cuisine, perhaps AMIGOS is the closest to home. All the dishes are prepared carefully and detailed in taste and presentation alike, and the ambience in the same manner. Though far from being like a Mexican Bar in the movies i.e. “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”, at least the ambience is clean, comfy and somewhat romantic like a seaside bistro near the beaches of Mexico (being next to Pluit Lake, I think it’s close to that).

As stated in a TV commercial, taste is the most important. As usual, I tried some of the specials there: Chicken Quesadillas (chicken flour tortilla), Chimichanga (fried flour tortilla with beef and red bean, served with avocado, sour cream and mexican rice), and Strawberry Margarita. BJ Cell tried Philly Cheese Steak (submarine sandwich with grilled beef, mushrooms, cheese and french fries).

Now here’s a thought. Some people may think that Mexican food are all served extra spicy and extra crispy like Nachos, but it’s different here. You can add up the extra jalapenos and spicy stuffs after the food is served. The tortillas are tender and you can eat the tortilla plus meat without having to worry about spilled sauces and meat that made your hands dirty.

The waiters are very helpful too. Actually, Chicken Quesadillas was the waiter’s recommendation, so we tried it and the taste... heavenly. Like Philly Cheese Steak, it gives you a feeling of tenderness, tastes just right, and a peace of mind at the same time. Because the sandwich in some other places tends to be greasy and fatty – typical junk food characteristics. Well, there’s no junk food in AMIGOS, all real food.

Chimichanga is the most complete Mexican taste experience I’ve sampled so far, and I think I’ll come back sometime for more variants in the menu, a good Mexican live music, and a good time. – BJ Vadis, for vadisworld
