Evernade - Andry and Santi's Wedding Evernade

Mission: Singapore All-Possible - Don't Wanna Miss a Thing!

As you set your feet in Singapore soil, your adventure begins. Three days, and you got a mission: Get the most out of Singapore and don't miss a thing. With SG Tourist Pass and without a tour guide, enjoy best attracions, sample all Singapore culinary specials and shop 'till you drop!

Day 1: Back to the Future
Take a walk and bus from City Hall to Marina Bay Sands.
Objectives: Raffles Statue (White), Merlion, SkyPark.

Take the bus from your hotel to the city hall and walk all the way of Singapore's proud history from Queen Elizabeth's Walk - Merlion - Esplanade all the way past Fullerton Hotel, get blended in the rush hour, take MRT to Marina Bay & bus to Marina Bay Sands and enjoy the grandeur of the SkyPark. After that, you can go to Orchard Road to Tang's or Lucky Plaza to sample some SG street food, take a walk and then to ION Orchard and take MRT back to your hotel (unless you want to go to ZOUK first).

Day 2: The Pilgrim in Fantasy Lands
Sentosa Resort World & Universal Studios.
Objectives: Alien Cylon Blue Rollercoaster, Crane Dance.

With a public bus or MRT, you'll arrive at VivoCity. Get a spare cash and take the bus to Sentosa Island. In Universal Studios, there are 2 ways to enjoy ALL attractions there:
1. Counter-Clockwise Walk: Take the most exciting ride: Battlestar Galactica rollercoaster first before it gets too crowded.
2. Clockwise Walk: Enjoy all rides and take Battlestar Galactica rollercoaster as finale. It's all up to you.

After enjoying the rides, you can rest in FestiveWalk or go back to VivoCity and back again by bus to Sentosa to watch either Voyage de la Vie, RWS Crane Dance or both in Sentosa Resorts World.

Day 3: Get Wild!
Either Singapore Zoo or Jurong Bird Park, then Chinatown Food Street to Orchard Road & Zouk.
Objectives: 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals (SG Zoo), SG Street Food.

Now there are four "wild things" to get today, seeing animals from the wild, devouring wildly into various kinds of Singapore Street Food: Carrot Cakes, Prawn Hokkien Mee, Katong Blacan and all, shop like wild in Orchard Road and finally get wild in Zouk. What a wild finale of this 3-day mission adventure!

Note that you can use the first day to visit more historical places if you arrive in SG before 1 PM. And if you depart from SG on the third day, you probably want to cut out on the nightly "wild stuff" or move all Orchard and Zouk to the night of the first day.

Well, we can say it was "mission accomplished", you can really enjoy your 3-day visit in Singapore and getting all the best of the city and come back home with fond memories plus a sense of fulfillment from all the objectives you finished - and a longing for another visit to the Fair Singapore.

Additional Tip:


- Plan your journey carefully. Study the city map, MRT and bus route and plan your route according to the areas you want to explore. Example in this guide:
Day 1: Center - South
Day 2: South (Sentosa)
Day 3: North (Northwest or Northeast) - Center

- As soon as you arrive in Singapore and you don't want to hire a local guide, GET A TOURIST PASS! Just buy the 3-day pass in Changi Airport and you will save lots and lots of money and your journey will be most convenient with all the MRTs and buses you can use freely.

- Make sure you visit Universal Studios SG at regular days, not weekends (Sat-Sun) first thing in the morning and you'll know why.

My grandmother passed away today at 1:30 pm. May God rest her soul. I've made her smile just yesterday, too bad I didn't get to show her the manga I've made... she was so fond of comics (to see the drawings only, not reading the story).

The Passion of Mbah Surip

I bet not too many foreigners know this man, Mbah Surip (Real Name: Surip Arianto) He was a street artist, later a full-fledged musician. With a simple song (perhaps too simple) that turned out to be a one-hit-wonder.

For some people, the song "Tak Gendong (Carry You Around)" is no more than a joke. But for so many others, it is a relief, a simplicity to all the complications, the distressful crisis and the culture shift that deprives our nation, Indonesia from the passion to realize our dreams and reach for the stars.

Most people nowadays are too busy with their jobs, which is - in one way - the best source of income, throwing away the need for "crazy" passion and dream, and many more are so indulged with shebangs of audio-visual entertainment that made them too lazy to create motion pictures in their minds, that is, to imagine.

And then, Mbah Surip came in the right momentum with the right hit, in the right time, the right place, BAMM! And he scored!

As he has mentioned, Mbah Surip was also a regular "working machine" in his youth and decided to follow the Rastavarian dreams later in life. His star shone quite late, in his age of 60, but alas! He left us so suddenly, succumbed to heart attack. He was gone too soon, died the similar way to Michael Jackson and his good friend the poet WS Rendra followed him to the afterlife soon after. He left us all before I have a chance to meet the man who realized his dreams.

Well, I wonder how much longer people will remember this flash of wonder. Nonetheless, what I can Identify with Mbah Surip is that I shared his passion - in my own way, in the project I summarized in www.fireheart.tk. That's why I need to write this down, to record this in my blogs to remind myself (and hopefully many others) to reach for the stars and not leaving our daily job (or vice versa: doing our daily job and spare some time to follow our dreams).

As for myself, yes, I'm a dreamer. I started out just in time of need of a family of my own and neglected that need just for that very passion. Unlike Mbah Surip, my momentum hasn't come yet, due to the circumstances I've mentioned earlier. Maybe that momentum will come when I'm old or long after I die, but I must go on. I can't stop dreaming. I can't stop improving my skills, breaking my boundaries and Mbah Surip's passion inspirited, inspired me even further.

That's why so many Indonesian artists looked up to him. that's why for many dreamers and regulars alike, Mbah Surip was not a joker, but a red-yellow-green knight, a true hero. That's why we Indonesians, including our president lamented the loss of a national treasure and asset. Mbah Surip is out of this world, but his passion lingers on in so many Indonesian hearts, especially mine.

So long, Mbah Surip, I'll carry "you" on as long as my dreams go. Wherever are you going, your passion I'm always booking. Say it loud: Mbah Surip, RASTA MASTA!!

Meet the Asmats!

Yeah, this is not the movie titled "Meet the Spartans", but the other movie.
Instead of going all the way to Papua to visit the Asmat tribesmen in their village, I took a glimpse of a whole troop in La Piazza, Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Of course they were not here to battle anybody, but to introduce the precious heritage of Asmat art and culture to the 'modern' people in Jakarta (Asmat Culture Festival 2008), and now, via YouTube, the whole world.
Too bad I wasn't recording when they did their war dance!
